Topic: Indoor Environmental Exposure: Pollutants, Exposure Assessment, and Health Risks

Indoor environments are important settings for human exposure to environmental pollutants, as people spend a substantial proportion of their time in homes, workplaces, schools, and other enclosed spaces. Indoor pollutant concentrations are shaped by emission sources, occupant activities, infiltration of outdoor air, ventilation, and building characteristics, with important implications for human health. Increasing building airtightness, energy efficiency requirements, and climate-related challenges further highlight the need for comprehensive indoor exposure assessment.

This Special Issue aims to bring together recent advances in the understanding of indoor pollution sources, pollutant behaviour, human exposure, and associated health risks. We welcome original research and review articles addressing pollutant emissions and characterisation, exposure monitoring and modelling, emerging contaminants, and innovative assessment methodologies. Particular interest is given to low-cost and emerging sensor technologies, real-world monitoring, source apportionment, and approaches integrating chemical characterisation with toxicological indicators, including oxidative potential. Studies investigating relationships between indoor exposures and health outcomes, as well as the effectiveness of ventilation, behavioural interventions, and other exposure mitigation strategies, are also encouraged.

By fostering multidisciplinary research, this Special Issue seeks to advance exposure assessment methodologies and inform evidence-based strategies for improving indoor environmental quality and protecting human health.
